If they made the posts and clips the same, and raised the price because the cost of materials and manufacturing went up, people would complain about that.
Manufacturers have studied this for decades and determined that if you keep the price the same and change the product to fit the price point, people are less apt to complain, because most don't notice the difference.
Ice cream is a good example of this. This might be news to you but most ice cream "half gallons" are no longer half a gallon. Most are three pints now. This is because the cost of everything (but the milk) has gone up, and the choices were raise prices (lots of complaints), reduce the quality of the product (lots of complaints), or put less in the package (few people notice).
