It does separate some of the dust but without it you would have a big pile of ground feed blasted in one spot with great force. The cyclone lessens the output force of the blower. It could also redirect the flow depending how your grinder is configured. If you think it gets all the dust out, just dump a scoop on your head and see if it itches. Lol
