Well, I was raised on a farm in the 50's (I know, I'm an old geezer) I was taught with much supervision to operate tractors when I was very young. I was pulling a baler with dad loading the wagons when I was 6. Raking hay at the same age. I was taught properly and safely, and I haven't forgotten. I had toy tractors as well (I wish I still had them today). I guess the main difference is that my play time reflected my work time, not the other way around. Any child playing with any toy is exercising his imagination more than anything else. Realistic toys with parental guidance will be a learning experience as well as fun playtime. And it will still allow for growth of both realism & fantasy. It's our job to teach them the difference.
