Clean the screen and fuel pump chamber. The fuel pump is located in front of the engine, inboard from the generator. As to the cooling, if you do not add coolant, does the water level stabilize with some coolant in the top rad tank? There is no recovery tank on this system, so some 'head space' in the radiator is needed for coolant expansion.
