I have an old Bobcat 444 that I repowered with a Briggs 23hp Vanuard engine. My question concerns the charging system. If I attach a battery tester to the battery I can watch the voltage rise as the system recharges the battery after starting. But the 30-0-30 amp ammeter I have in line doesn't show a thing for charging. It does show a slight discharge when starting. Could it be the ammeter is just too "big" for the system and that I maybe need a smaller ammeter, like 15-0-15 amps? I know on my old generator tractors if you stick a more modern 60-0-60 amp ammeter in the line it hardly registers at all, but a 20-0-20 will jump all over the place.
