That is Red the red tailed hawk. I was tedding this AM and noted that I hadn't seen him yet. There has been one hanging around this field for probably fifteen years. He will watch from one of two limbs along the edge as I work, then sometimes fly around above watching. Sometimes he will come in fairly close to me to grab a dead mouse or snake. But, he was a no show so far. This afternoon I was baling when I suddenly noticed a huge shadow on the ground beside me and he came in from my left and landed right in front of me. And I mean RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME. I slammed on the brakes to keep from hitting him and he just stood there looking down, and licking his beak. Then he casually reached out with his right claw and grabbed a mouse and took off. It is good to have things going right.
