I have an '71 IH 454 and had the same question you did a ways back. According to my Case/IH dealer, the last 4 numbers are the key in determining the year of your tractor. ...6806 indicates that your tractor was built in 1972. By the way, the suffix B indicates a fast speed (20 mph) gear box. The suffix S indicates the 14/51 bevel gear set. The suffix Z indicates a 623 rpm PTO.
