Things were much the same here in Canada. Land got overvalued. Banks actually had vans running up and down rural roads handing money out left and right. Had one banker tell me that I didn't need $20K , he'd give me $200K to raise hogs. Two years later , same banker spoke at a hog meeting and swore the banks never encouraged expansion. Glad I went for the $20K instead of the $200K,still nearly killed us paying $1200. a month intrest producing piglets that no one wanted. Have still never really got back on our feet.
