Good question. I wonder what part of the cost of motor oil is crude oil? Every year the tighter emissions rules make the engines run at higher temp, and every year it seems they make more fuel economy and hp from smaller engines. Every new engine seems to need a higher spec oil. Are we still at SG-SH for gas engines or has it been raised again. I wonder what part the better additive packages and special refining of base stock are in the cost of a quart of oil. Also remember many new engines recommend oil changes of 7000+ miles.
