Trying to fix the fuel gauge on my 04 F-250 diesel. Since I bought the truck it hasn't worked. When I hook up a battery charger to the truck (crank no start to prime the oil rail after an injector replacement) it would read about 1/8 of a tank when it is full. I removed the #2, 31, and 45(???) fuses and re-installed them. Now with a full tank I get the 1/8 reading whereas before it would be reading pretty much negative 1/4 with the fuel light on. After the truck runs for 30 seconds or so the gauge drops down as low as it can go. I can't get the connector from the sending unit to the wire harness undone without fear of breaking it.
Where else should I look for the problem before I pull the bed and dump a couple hundred bucks into a new fuel sending unit?
