The alternator is wired with the ammeter connected to the alt output terminal as is the plug pig tail black wire. The white wire activates the alternator either by just touching the hot output terminal, connecting a 12 V bulb in the line to the run position of the ignition switch, this line is only used to activate the alt and will go out whe the alt starts to charge.
