Yes it was a shame and a tragedy. As many IHC partisans will tell you, they really did make some good stuff over the years. Up home in Wis, it always seemed that the red stuff would take hitting a rock better than the green stuff would. There's another book that came out about the same time as A Corporate Tragedy. It's called John Deere's Company. It describes Deere from the start up to about '85 or so. They formed what today would be called a Skunk Works inside the company and worked 5 or 6 years getting the 1960 models designed. As many on this forum have noted, those -10 series tractors still weren't quite right, and they needed to get to the 20 series (4020 etc) to finish the job. Deere thought about and rejected buying Massey, and damn near merged with Fiat until backing out at the last minute. This was all by the early '70's. But IHC by that time was in disarray and it only got worse. Oh well.
