If you know more than I do and are determined to switch to a voltage regulator and know how to do that, well, SWELL!
Bottom line is that the GENERATOR is the component that gets polarized, NOT the "cutout" or "VR".
If the generator has been working with the system set up as (+) ground it does NOT need to be polarized if you sub out the cutout and keep the system (+) ground.
On the other hand, if done properly, polarizing the generator often does not hurt anything.
