I was in your spot two years ago. Same reasoning, while I still keep my old iron to putt around with I wanted a fairly new compact tractor to take me into retirement caring for about 8 acres. I did a lot of research (TractorHouse) and looked at JD, Case/IH, Kubota, Mahindra, and Massey. All dealers reasonably close by and reputable. Considered brand new and low hour used. I needed to mow, move snow, haul firewood, a little landscaping, and be comfortable while doing it no matter what the weather. Actually drove/worked each one. My own opinion fell to this:

JD and Case/IH too expensive to buy and fix. But I had no complaints on quality or fit and finish of the cab. I could have gotten an LS which is the same as a Case/IH but no dealer locally. I didn't really like the JD factory quick attach system but could have changed it to skidloader style if I'd bought it. Kubota was near perfect except I didn't like the hydro shuttle foot peddle (bad ankles). Ironically my daughter and her husband bought that one after I decided not to; I have since run it alot and the peddle was not as bad as I thought it would be; and the tractor has been absolutely trouble free for 130 hours. Mahindra was a capable tractor but the cab noise, fit and finish was a bit rough. I liked the warranty but it was the dealer the furthest away. It was almost sure thing until I found a low hour trade in. In the end I bought a 2013 Massey 1635 with 240 hours on it. Extended the factory AGCO warranty to 600 hours. 2013 was last year of the mechanical pump, no electronic engine controls. Now has about 380 hours on it, I have had one item repaired under warranty service which went flawlessly (axle seal). Dealer 7 miles away. It does everything I want it to do (quick attach loader, 3 point finish mower) and AC is so nice when mowing on 100 degree days. I think I saved about $10k all in over a brand new one. Hope this helps, good luck with your search.
