I have a client who pays for her taxes with bread. Really great bread. It's a simple tax return and I really like her bread. Years ago I inherited a client from an old friend who had been forced to retire for health reasons. He sent me a bunch of work but made me promise I had to take the "cookie lady" as part of the deal. Another simple return, but she was in her 90's and did not drive. So I had to drive 20 miles one way to do the return and her fee was a plate of really good cookies. The first time I did it she handed me a $20 bill. I said "what is this?" She refused to give me cookies saying it was not right and that she could not expect me.....etc. I really wanted those cookies.
