When we lived in a house with a septic tank, we just ran everything into the tank and never had any problems.
When we built our current house 20 years ago, we put in a lagoon because the slope for a tile field was on the wrong side of the house for a septic tank. No way would I ever put in a lagoon again. It's nothing but an eyesore that we need to add water to periodically.
Besides being an eyesore, our problem with the lagoon is specs call for the lagoon to be sized according to how many bedrooms the house has. Our house is four bedrooms with just my wife and I living in it. So, our lagoon had to be sized as though enough people were living in the house to occupy four bedrooms, with a commensurate amount of water and sewage going into the lagoon. Just my wife and I don't generate that much, and our use of the lagoon is 'way under what the lagoon is sized for.
