In the UK we grow 3 year leys and apply up to 400kg N/ha - around half a ton of Ammonium Nitrate /acre max over several applications to pure rye grass leys. We expect to get 18-20 tonnes of silage/acre from 2-3 cuts. we dont make hay out of that as it is difficult to get it to dry in those volumes. For an good average hay yield we would apply around quarter a ton of ammonium nitrate and get 3-3.25 tons of hay/acre - around 120 60lb rectangle bales from a average well cared for field of course we have a damp climate which enables the grass to make max use of those levels of fertiliser
