I know lots of people like that, just hard to give up ones dreams.
I didn�t follow the previous discussion but I will guesses:
Bob remembers being 45 and doing stuff and still has all that ambition locked up in his head; the body is much older and the concentration and ambition left a long time ago, and so he is conflicted with his dreams and his reality. But both are very real.
I suspect there is not worry about him actually fixing the pickup or getting it out on the road.
But the dream hasn�t gone away..... if it does, so does any thought of still being somebody, still having value......
