Thanks much for all the help! Unfortunately we sold the auto-reset plow after Dad passed on, thinking we won't need that anymore... We can borrow a chisel plow from one of our renters, we would just need to disk (lightly) afterwards because it's pretty rough. Would that be enough for the weeds?
Not much fall plowing in our area because of the soil. Usually, you have to put in a cover crop (rye) after some crops (potatoes, peas, etc.) or the dust will blow...
You have convinced me it's time to part ways with the "Vibrashank." I know it's a loaded question, but what's a good alternative? Chisel plow or a newer field cultivator or something else. The option would have to match an IH 1486...Boss isn't going to spring for a new tractor!
