Back in years putting wheels under 4 kids (so wife and I had something to drive when we needed to go someplace) I went through several GM V8s with the plastic/aluminum cam gear, which at about 80k miles the nylon tips would break off and the chain would jump a few links and guess what............ When I would go to the junk yard and get a newer working replacement, while it was still on the lift, off with the cam chain and gears and on with steel and bronze. Never had another problem......rumor was that the nylon tips were designed to reduce noise.............really???????
