: I have a 18hp Kohler Magnum, 2 cylinder and it is the hardest starting engine I have ever had. Does anyone have any advise on how to correct the problem? any advise would be appreciated. Thanks The reason these engines are hard to start is because of the big holes in the choke plate. The reason for these big holes is so the dont flood as easy. Find an older carb from a 12-16hp single cyl kohler and put the choke plate in your carb. This should help assuming the engine is in good tune. You could also cover the holes in your choke-maybe solder a piece of tin over them.
