If it is a 1948, then it is an 8N. The Fordson on the other hand, is most likely the nearest thing to a 3000 or a 4000 Ford. The newer tractor will have a better pto, hydraulics, etc. A '48 Ford 8N would still be plenty useful for the likely chores you would be doing on 2.5 acres. It would do very well with a blade for snow removal or a small brushcutter (you would need an overriding clutch for the pto).
