Ours will run toot running so it wears the downhill side on side hills. If it is not wearing the side of the spreader groove I would not worry about it. I don't know how old our chain is. We have had the spreader about 10 years and it was from the local fertilizer guys then. I do know we need to do a whole rebuild on it if we are going to keep it much longer. bearings suspension chains sprockets and all. Might just be time for a different one.
