A 4640 was the first tractor I bought new back in 1980. I agree - one of Deere's better tractors. That tractor never saw a load it didn't want to pull, it would lean into a load, snort and claw, and something would move. I ran it at about 225 horse it's whole life. It broke a head bolt at about 8,000 hours during planting season and I traded it for an 8300 MFWD. The dealer was sure I would be impressed with the new one but he was wrong. I liked the front assist but the 4640 would outwork the 8300 any day. I know where the tractor is - a friend owns it - and I've thought about trying to buy it back, which would be very hard to splain to the wifey since I'm planning to mostly retire next year. Maybe I could sell my 8285 and call it downsizing???
