You're not supposed to use sway adjusters to hold the plow in place behind you. Good way to break 'em when you hit a rock.
The plow is supposed to be able to sway to go around rocks. Between having the proper tread width on the tractor, and that adjustment on the hitch, a good plowman can set it up so the plow naturally follows the tractor. Should be able to put the wheel in the furrow and let go of the steering wheel.
If you're fighting it, it's not set up right and you're just tearing up the ground, making a mess. Not plowing.
