Daddy's old boring bar had a centrifugal switch (called it a "mouse trap!!) that went bad when we were using it one time. We weren't able to fix it, but Daddy went and got a long flat shoelace. We wrapped it around the motor shaft where it coupled to the gearbox and "pull started" it!! Worked then and several years later, my BIL and I rebuilt/bored an engine. He couldn't believe it when I pull started the motor!!
