Cavation is generally caused by a bad ground in your electrical system. Could be as simple as a rear light that barely works. A 966 ihc my brother found the air-conditioner clutch just had 6 to 8 volt. It had just been overhauled because no 6 cyl leaked water through sleeve. Cat published a bulletin 25 yrs ago. Wanted all grounds checked. And said to never haul loads like plastic pipe without tarping. Said a 3406 Cat engine would cavitate and have holes in sleeves in 100000 miles. We had a Detroit in a IH truck, water would turn rusty. Did everything. I happened to read Cat bulletin. Started to check grounds. The ground straps for differentials were never hooked up. Changed antifreeze, never did it again. This was a new truck. 4300 IHC.
