Need to make sure the type of switch you are using is one that grounds to the frame when turned off, usually have only one post on the switch, if it has two posts, it is insulated and you will have to ground one post to a frame ground. Be sure the short out post will stop the engine by touching a wire or screwdriver to it with the engine running,should kill the engine if it doesn't do this the wire or grounding strap to the points inside the magneto is probably broke, or disconnected. You can use a non electric start riding lawnmower switch if you want to have a key switch, it will have only one terminal and works nicely, just make sure it is grounded good. Clean paint and rust from mounting hole. Gene Davis
