I have seen csx badged equipment on top of cars unloading ballast in a rail yard near Erie PA. Backhoe and excavator specifically. The backhoe looked pretty sketchy but he was on the rails of the top of the car with the rear stabilizers and had the front bucket clam shelled gripping a beam of some sort to span the car and the ends rest on top. The excavator had the tracks right on the car top tossing the stone up into a long pile along the rail.
