You can burn diesel in a nipsco (torpedo) heater but it tends to smell and sometimes smoke a little (I don't think it burns as hot). It isn't good to burn it in some newer ones because the soot from the diesel can build up on the sensors inside. We usually just burn kerosene.

Winter diesel fuel is just a 50-50 blend of kerosene and regular diesel fuel. You can mix it yourself if you only need a small amount to get through the winter.
