got my conversion project finished...took about 5hrs on and off. would have taken alot less time if I would have realized that the sending unit in the PLASTIC tank has to be grounded...usually this is naturally grounded when fixed to a metal tank...since mine is plastic I had to run an extra ground wire. consequently I had to drill 1 small hole in the tank for this... my tank had a small sending unit for the dummy light so I was able to (with little modification) secure the new unit using this hole and old sending unit 'plug'. getting the new unit in the tank with float attached was a challenge, but not as much of a challenge trying to hold onto and position the unit in the mounting hole. I think I dropped it in the tank at least 20 times, and then had to fish it back out each time...patience..patience..patience. I ended up mounting the guage in the upper right side of the dash...had plenty of room above the ign switch and looks good. I didn't hook up the light in the gauge since I don't plan much night operation. Total cost of the project was about $30 and my time. this project was worth doing!
