The welder method works well. It's also the most forgiving in my opinion. My question to you is, does it need to replaced anyway? As long as it's not tore up I re-use the old race with the new bearing. As long as the race is smooth and the new bearing seats in the race, why go through the trouble of replacing it. I'm waiting on bearings for a bush hog right now and there's no way to replace the bearing races in this particular gearbox. Getting the old ones out wouldn't be a problem, but driving the new ones in would. I've ruined brass punches driving some races into truck axles.
