Friend of mine bought a half dozen bison heifer calves to mix into his small beef herd. When the guy came to drop them off he questioned the integrity of the facilities. After multiple attempts to convince the new owner otherwise, he agreed to drop the gate on the trailer, with no further liability on his part. Sure enough, the bison went into and through the end wall of the barn and a couple fences on their way out.
A concerted effort of local rodeo folks managed to capture and return four of the calves, but he had to hire some mythical "super tracker" from one of the hunting lodges in the UP to come hunt the last two down. They had been running wild through local orchards, fields and woods for a couple of weeks. The story included one of those half-mile kill shots in high wind through heavy cover that only the owner can properly re-tell.
