Reminds me of a story of how a guy here found out he'd bought a farm that the seller still owed on a land contract. Another guy in the neighborhood had stopped in one day. They were talking and he said he saw a cow jump right through that little window at the far end of the barn one time. The new owner asked him how he was so familiar with the place? He said "I own it.".
The new owner stopped dead in his tracks and said "What do you mean you own it?!". The guy told him that it had been his wife's parent's place and they had sold it to the previous owner on a land contract. He told him then that it wasn't paid off yet.
Luckily enough,the second buyer kept paying the first buyer and the seller kept getting his payments every month,but it was news to the second buyer,that's for sure.
