Mike, I am reminded of the story about an Amish farmer that had a silo painted like a barber pole, one day a traveling salesman drove in and asked him why it was painted that way. The Amishman said, I heard the paint helps preserve the wood. General motors, now that they are using General Motors engines instead of Chevy, Pont, etc. seem to be painting a lot of them black. With the dirt and natural concealment of a auto engine, don't think the color could have anything to do with heat retention. But it keeps the iron from rusting. John in Ne.
