There's a pretty good book on them by Walter Boyne called Boeing B-52. Should answer a lot of your questions. You could probably get it through some kind of library loan. The Air Force Association magazine has articles on them now and then. Apparently the addition of GPS nav improved their accuracy back in the Gulf War. For an aircraft that was roughed out over a weekend in Dayton in October 1948 the basic design sure has held up. I believe there is a saying about those things: "There are some things over the age of 30 that you can trust."
