Local BTO had 6 strand barbed wire, 30' spacing between posts, 6' between stays. Called it a swinging fence. Must have worked as they were on a major FM-Mkt (545) Valdasta area and I never saw a bovine lying in the ditch with it's feet straight up.
I built fence for 40 years on my place and I guarantee you not one was like another. Just didn't happen...one reason was resources, another time line, other terrain, other usage, how I felt at the time.
Biggest problem I had was calves that bedded at the (barbed wire) fence line while mama was grazing nearby, getting up on the wrong side. The old axiom about if they got over there they will get back just didn't hold water on this farm. So field fencing where I had calves solved that problem.
