Who said that she "needed" to give them an estimate? The family? Is that a condition of taking on the consignment? Any auction is a crap shoot at best, the auctioneer knows that better than anyone and the family must know that too, or someone should tell them if they don't. So what happens I wonder, does the family go shopping for the best estimate from a variety of auction houses? And then what happens if all the stuff brings less than half the estimate, who's to blame for that? I would suggest just auctioning them off and hoping for the best, or get someone to get everything working (if possible) and try advertising and selling them privately. Tough situation for everyone ....
