I may get a lot of flack, but IMHO, straight cross link chains are better for snow plow use. I use old truck chains with twice the cross links as original on my WD Allis for snow plowing. There is always plenty of chain in contact with the ground. My experience with ring type chains is they are excellent for mud, but tend to spin and slide on ice and solidly frozen ground. They also do a lot more damage to driveways when the frost goes out of the top layer.
