Jim, Had a friends TO-35 that did the same thing. The reason for it was the nut on the end of the cam came loose giving the cam end play and putting pressure on the spiral gear on the distributor to climb and bend the clamp as yours does. A new nut was $10 and then had to purchase rebuilt distributor also cause it had worn about a quarter inch of end play in it. Sorry about your luck, Big Dean put me on to it.
