Can't speak to your regulator situation, but I converted my Case VAC to 12 volts by replacing the cutout with a solid state diode (50 amp) and control the rate of charge by resistance in the field circuit. The VAC used the 3 position headlight switch to control charge so I moved the light control to a separate switch and use the old one for 2 position charge control. I also changed the ignition coil to a 12 volt one. This was done in 1982 and all is still well. Kept the 6 volt starter and keep the engine in good tune so it starts quickly and doesn't cook the starter (double voltage means double current hence 4 times the wattage). You could use the cutout part of the regulator and insert some current limiting in the field circuit. Might be fun to play around and see what happens. Keep us posted. Have fun.

Fabricating Sidesheets - by Chris Pratt. The easiest and best first-time project for wanna-be sheet-metal workers like myself is flat or nearly flat metal cut and drilled to be a tractor's sidesheet. A sidesheet is sheetmetal to cover either the engine as in the case of early Oliver's, Massey-Harris' and many crawlers or the wiring and electrical components as in the case of the Massey-Harris Pony, Allis Chalmers' D Series (D-14, D-15, D-12, D-10, D-17, and D-19). The need for fabricating becomes obvious when you go to buy any of these
