I highly recommend disabling the AFM. The Range Technology disabler is a dongle that plugs into the OBDII port and is left there. It shuts the AFM off without affecting anything else, or setting a light. Just Google Range Technology. My customers that have them love them. They have reported that no AFM does not affect fuel economy much, virtually eliminates oil consumption, and elminates the annoying exhaust note change on the highway. The AFM system is just a gimmick to appease the Feds and make the public believe a truck was getting better mileage because of it. There are more sophisticated, and expensive, tuners that can do the same thing and change other operating parameters.
As to your hesitation, I really don't have an idea for that, not a complaint I normally see on those trucks. I would be wondering if it has the alcohol content of the fuel properly learned. A scan tool will have a PID that lists what the ECM is using as the alcohol content.
