In Louisiana our plates for private cars and trucks was $10 per year. They were letting bigger pickups (over 6000 gvwr) get the regular car plates.
Then a few years ago the state cracked down. Any pickup over 6000 gvwr needs a truck plate. And they raised the rate on cars based on the value.
So now for a car it is .01% of value or $10 per $10,000 per year A pickup with a gvwr between 6000 lbs and 10,000 lbs is $28 per year.

Very few states have plate fees less than us and we even have $75,000 homestead exemption on property taxes. That means you pay no tax on first $75k of property value. But we do have high sales tax it the 9 to 10 percent range.
Also our poor roads and schools show our low tax rate.
