I have found that the states that have high annual registration fees or annual tax on vehicles based on value often have much lower property tax and lower or no state income tax compared to us here in the tax capital of the US , New York. Here my pickup red is $46/ yr car (Jeep Patriot) is $26/ yr. Our county adds a $5/ yr fee to each registration. Also sales tax every time a vehicle changes hands, new or used. These fees are low compared to many states but we also pay sales tax on most things as well as some of the highest school tax and property tax and state income tax in the nation.
