Useing Lye as a pain stripper

I have used spray on oven cleaner several times. I seem to get mixed results. Sometimes it works very good another time not too acceptable. I find that if you are able to warm the piece up good oven cleaner will work terrifically every time. Just hose the old pain away.

Someone once told me that if you mix up a lye solution (Gillet's Lye) it will do an excellent job. (I have never tried it.) Has anyone any experience with this.
