Sounds like the battery has went open or high resistance.
Any lead-acid battery that sits partially discharged or dead at below freezing or at 80+F weather is going to split or sulphate.
The layer of sulphate is literally insulating the lead from the acid preventing electron travel.
While the battery will never be "right" a "brutal" high voltage charging may revive it. Trickle charging only will often ruin batteries.
Bulk charging a battery at 10% of it's amp hour capacity is a good rule of thumb.
