I happened to ride a couple of hours with a custom cutter here in Arizona last May with one of those Shellborn ( the blue ones ) Headers on the largest Deere combine. They were cutting irrigated wheat and running nearly five miles an hour in wheat that was yielding over 140 bushels per acre. It is amazing how they work and are extremely efficient at getting all the grain and taking little straw. It takes just the heads off the straw or it strips the grain out of the heads, They were also coming in behind them with self propelled swathers and windowing and baling the straw for the horse people who loved the long stemmed straw. Before I got out of the combine the fellow wanted to know if I would like a job for the season. I told him that my goal has been to spend more time in an airplane or a boat than in a tractor or combine. I did see a lot of jobs that I thought I could handle. I thought it would fun to run one of those Freeman balers for a while. I have never been around a three string baler before and the Freeman looked like it would have tremendous capacity. Tom .
