I’m not a big fan of the current trends in Ag subsidies. The rarely used ‘counter cyclical’ program they had for a few years is probably one of the few that made some sense, it kicked in if things got bad for a time and would level off a bad cliff effect. The insurance subsidy is there to help bankers and insurance companies, farmers are just along for the ride.
But anyhow, I disagree with an earlier point. We should be exporting more stuff to China, not less, if all things were fair. I don’t understand cutting bean exports to zero. We want to be exporting more stuff to them than what they export to us.
I don’t understand your message or goal or point there at all with the zero bean exports to them.
China is a problem for sure. We in the USA have decided we can’t manufature common items. We have put our eggs in the ‘intilledtual basket’ and think we will stay rich by holding patents. I’m not sure that was wise, but I wasn’t consulted. :) Now we need to find a way to make that work. A downside is the working class has to turn into a service industry, that can be a difficult transformation. Another problem is China, when they don’t honor the patent rights. But we sailed our ship, we can’t just stop interacting with China either, we need to find a working agreement. We are where we are.
I’m a simple dirt farmer, so I sure don’t know all that much on it.
I’m puzzled why you would want zero soybean exports to China, that would seem to make any thing at all worse, not better.
