I also had the same idea a few years back. Here is what I did. I bought a used 20' + 4' beaver tail corn pro gooseneck. The whole tail will move to form a 24' flat deck. I thought a upper deck would be nice to have also. Since I use to build small trailers for a living I thought if I made upper deck (6'4") wide x 8'6" I could turn the upper deck into a small single axle trailer later on down the road if I got tired of the upper deck. Once the deck was on the gooseneck I then started to build the ramps. They were made to handle about 2500 lbs per set, and were 13" wide and 8'6" long. I also used the ramps with my truck. I then made them to were I could use them as sides for my trailer and truck. Here is where I ended up not liking my set up. I started using my ramps with my truck. My truck is about the same heigth from the ground as the upper deck is from the deck of the trailer. I have loaded stuff on my truck with the ramps and man is it steep without backing into a ditch or something. Using the ramps with the upper deck , you dont have that option. Also falling from a 3 foot high ramp isnt near as bad as falling from a 6'upper deck. To some it up, build your upper deck but dot plan on driving a tractor up on it, just haul parts or whatever.

Today's Featured Article - Harvestin Hay: The Early Years (Part 2) - by Pat Browning. The summer of 1950 was the start of a new era in farming for our family. I was thirteen, and Kathy (my oldest sister) was seven. At this age, I believed tractor farming was the only way, hot stuff -- and given a chance I probably would have used the tractor, Dad's first, a 1936 Model "A" John Deere, to go bring in the cows! And I think Dad was ready for some automation too. And so it was that we acquired a good, used J. I. Case, wire tie hay baler. In addition to a person to drive th ... [Read Article]
