If by "won't start" you mean "the starter does not turn the engine over", then it's pretty easy to check out the "hot no-start" problem. Carry your DMM with you. Next time it happens, test back from the starter all the way to the ignition switch until you find the culprit. Yes, it can be the starter or the solenoid but it can also be the ignition switch or a bad connection (loose, corroded) anywhere along the wiring.
